Texas Instruments TMS1000NLL Die Shots

June and July have been very busy for us, but not busy at the acid bench or microscope.  Now we're back in the lab and getting down to business, knocking a few chips off the top of the amazing pile of historic devices we've received from donors lately.  Here's a very early microcontroller from TI.

Keep an eye on our Chip Status List.

  1. Great shot! Any idea what this chip was programmed for? I decoded the output PLA and it's not set up for a 7-segment display. The resolution is good enough, but I'm not sure I'm up to decoding the 8192 bits of ROM! Also, that's a 28-pin chip, but there are 30 pads - I guess VSS and VDD were each connected to 2? Thanks!
